The Princess and the Frog
Disney has released the trailer for its 2009 animated feature "The Princess and the Frog" featuring its first black princess in over 70 years of film making. Check it out:
It's been reported that the title character, Princess Tiana, was originally to be a chambermaid named Maddy with a voodoo priestess fairy godmother, but that that was scrapped early in the process amid cries of racism. However, Disney released a statement last year claiming that this information was false, and that details about the movie weren't yet in place.
What do we think? I admit I'm a sucker for a princess story, so I think the trailer is cute. But is it too little, too late on Disney's part?

Comments:
As much as I love Pixar movies (Wall-E ftw), it's nice to see some old school 2D animation. Plus it's set in New Orleans, which has always been one of my favorite cities.
Not sure on the firefly though, I can already hear screams of racism. Though no one complained about Sebestian when The Little Mermaid came out.

No. No it's not.

Of course she's light skinned...but at least she's a princess.
The first Latino Disney characters to warrant a full feature are horribly offensive (Aztec) chihuahuas.

I'm pleased. It is long overdue but never too late. I'm excited for my daughter; she definitely won't think it's too late.

Aww, that looks cute, but I did think like Michael that the firefly might be deemed racist or offensive.
I think it's a little late, but it's good to see some more variety. Who was the first non-white princess? Pocahontas? Does she even qualify?
