arrow Mike Oz & H-Mac's Day Off

leisure.jpg

The Idea: Mike Oz and H-Mac try to have a Hella Fresno Friday.

The Inspiration: Mike Oz's planned purchase of the new iPhone, with all the capabilities needed for a duo of mobile bloggers.

The Plan: Live blog our pursuit of said Hella Fresno Friday with said new iPhone.

The Results ...

FAIL!

Mike Oz did not get a new iPhone (more on that in another post), but here's what did happen on our day off ...

We saw a man wearing Guess jean shorts from the 1990s and Chanel sunglasses walk into traffic in hot pursuit of a donut at the Fresno Donut House. Two hours later, donut craving presumably satisfied, we saw him waiting for the bus at Manchester Center, probably going to a place where they don't have donuts.

We got free Slurpees.

We saw this amusing sign. We laughed. An hour later, we saw that "church" was misspelled. We laughed more. And we kinda felt bad for them.

We saw an old couple walking through the drive thru at KFC on our way to Tacos, Tijuana. While eating tacos, Heather worried about the random comma in Tacos, Tijuana's name. Mike just worried about which salsa to use.

We saw this massive statue in a place where there should totally not be a massive statue and had to circle back to make sure we saw what we thought we saw.

At 11:46 a.m. we decided it would be a good idea to try to be inside a bar by noon. At 11:49 a.m., Heather saw elephants. At 11:55 a.m., the bar plan was put on hold, as we were on top of a downtown parking garage, trying to peeping-tom some elephants.

We enjoyed the downtown view.

We both said "ewww." Can you name that roof?

We went to one of our favorite bars, eager to see who exactly is at a bar at 12:30 in the afternoon. About a dozen people who all know each other's names, and are comfortable sharing Chinese takeaway with each other are there. By 1 p.m., the place is hopping as the crowd has doubled. Turns out, quite a few people in Fresno are in bars by midday. Lucky bastards.

Looking for the restroom, Mike Oz couldn't figure out if he's a pointer or a setter.

We got free Slurpees

We saw what happens when "Guitar Hero" meets pizza, pizza.

We thought somebody was trying to send us a message.

We got free Slurpees.

We were worried we'd get hit by errant tires. That driver MUST have been on his cell phone.

We got tired.

Ahem. Didn't see any museum stops or getting up close and personal with famous works of art on your day off. What would Ferris do?

Your culture nag,

Donald

What are you talking about, Donald? We saw TONS of art - the statue in that backyard, to name one, as well as a few graffiti murals and all of those beautiful brick buildings way downtown.

We just didn't PAY to see "famous" art rounded up in one spot.

Food, really? Tacos and slurpees and on and on. Come on Mike, you are better than that I hope.

Better? Better than Tacos Tijuana and Slurpees. Sir, there's not much in this world better than those two things.

What I want to know is what tunes were being played on this road trip.

I think you are the ones who drank all the slurpees in Fresno. My girl and i drove to 3 7-11's for free slurpees. They were all out of the baby cups they were giving away. By the time we got home with our RiteAid ice cream, we spend the money in gas we would've saved on Slurpees!
Thanks alot guys!!!!!

A couple of replies:

@C1: We listened to N.E.R.D., MGMT and El Olio Wolof.

@MsJoey: We went to McKinley/Palm, Clovis Ave/Tulare and Ashlan/Blackstone. So if there were Slurpee shortages elsewhere ... not our fault.
