Ladies and gentleman, meet the new Eminem ...
This kid Asher Roth has been building quite a buzz lately, thanks, especially, to his "Roth Boys" video, a take on Jay-Z's "Roc Boys." The video is amusing. Asher's flow is dope. And the Eminem influence is obvious.
Rather than having that early-Eminem craziness, Asher is a little more Zack Morris-prepster. Still, he got signed by Steve Rifkin (of SRC Records and ex of Loud Records). Check out the "Roth Boys" video. Warning: Language NSFW.
I'm putting together a list of 10 cool new artists I've discovered in 2008 for an upcoming column/blog plot. Asher is on it. If you're feeling him, you can download his "The Greenhouse Effect" mixtape with DJ Drama for free @ thedailykush.com.

This guy rhymes corny like Vanilla Ice. This is the rapper who's creating buzz these days? No thanks.

i'm going to say that i think jeffresno is wrong on the vanilla ice reference and stick with oz's eminem comparison. he also reminds me of some of the nerdcore rappers with slightly better production.
he's decent, but i'll take a wait and see on his overall talent as an mc.
finally, thought the cameos in the vid were cool, especially jay z since he's stealin...errr...appropriating the vid from him.

Just for the record: I'm gonna say that Wale is my favorite new buzzed-about rapper of the year. That "Mixtape About Nothing" is hot.
As for Asher, I'm not super duper impressed with him, but I do think the "next Eminem" selling point (which is everywhere, not an original observation on my part) makes him interesting and he's good enough that I'll listen to him from time to time.

...hopefully 'next eminem' does not include horrendously degrading his mother, father, and mother of his child... (nice to see if the kid can keep the barre above 'Springer-Show'/Toilet' for a while before imploding.
I like the humor and that he's not taking himself too seriously.
'...and I ain't even a rapper... hnuh-huh...'

Wale is the most over rated rapper out right now. His hype is riding off of mark ronson and his connections. Nothing he talks about is that dope. Listen to his version of Roc Boys...awful. As for this kid the mixtape was impressive. He is def one of the best rappers out there, but im waiting to see if he can make songs for an album. Although the Lounge was hot
