Five Things You Should Do This Week ...
Ya know, because you totally shouldn't take your kids to that Batman movie anymore.
1. Go see the only living Beatle who will come to the Fresno area. Ringo Starr -- with his All-Starr Band in tow -- perform at Tachi Palace in Lemoore tonight.
Some tickets are still available, I called and asked. You're welcome. Here's a pre-show primer. You're welcome again. And yeah, Paul, you could stop at Save Mart Center one of these days.
2. If you prefer Circles to Starrs, check out local indie band Circles and Circles whose career has been only slightly shorter than Ringo's. The group celebrates its one-year anniversary tonight at Starline. There will be cake.
3. Can't lie: The word "Hump" and this very colorful flier caught me eye. That's enough sometimes. For the record: It's a night of house music at Club Fred on Wednesday with some cool Fresno DJs and an out-of-town guest.
4. Here's the point where I go from "hump" to telling you to support the youth of Fresno. Tacky, I know. I'm sure this lady probably wouldn't be too happy. Nonetheless, on Thursday at Tower Theatre five young filmmakers from Fresno debut "Common Ground," a documentary "tracing the lives of three San Joaquin Valley families who came to California to work the land and create new lives in America's agricultural heartland." More info here.

5. Last but never ever least: The wacky and wild Brian Kenney Fresno celebrates his birthday on Thursday night at Club Fred. Hilarity will ensue, trust me. Not sure if there will be cake or not. It seems more like a brownie type of event. Oh, and raisins. He always gives out raisins.

Feel free to add your own recommendations.

Man Ill be down at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Why is that not on this list?

Justa: Because it's not in Fresno and you didn't write the post.
Ms. Joey: The dude on the left looks like the waiter who served me at the DiCicco's on First and Nees last night. Can anyone confirm? Or bring me some minestrone?

While awesome, Comic-Con doesn't really fit the local-stuff-happening vibe I go for with these Five Things ... posts.
Still, I'm jealous. Have fun.

Cause all these are in the local area?
Anyone going to Common Ground on Thursday? I'm tempted to go, but I know it would be by myself (again).

Lola, I really feel for that Circles dude, lookin' like me and all.
At least he's in a cool band, so he's got that going for him.

While it may not be fitting for this post, since it isnt here in Fresno...YOUR Smog City Roller Grrls are traveling into enemy grounds this saturday night to battle the Derby Dames of Reno. Its going to be quite scarey not having the ultra supportive Fresno fans with us. If anyone can make the...oh...6 hour drive, we would love all the Fresnans we can muster!!!

Mike, I'd love to but this weekend is my girlfriend's birthday. Good luck to all of you though, I know you'll kick Reno's ass.

#1--Done!!! Ringo was awesome, and the rest of the band as well........truly a great show! and unexpectedly so!!
Except that Ringo thought he was in a 'desert'??!! Um...maybe cow pasture....but he's a Beatle...and it doesn't matter....history in person!!!
