arrow Weekend plans with the Beehive

As we're fond of pointing out time and again, there's plenty to do here in Fresno. Following are the Beehivers' weekend plans for enjoying some of the best entertainment Fresno has to offer:

Felicia: I'll be attending "An Evening with Gary Sinise" on Sunday evening, as part of the CSU Summer Arts program at Fresno State. Most people think of him as Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump" or in his current role as the star of "CSI:NY." But he's also a respected stage actor and co-founder of the prestigious Steppenwolf Theatre Company. I'm really looking forward to his reflections on life as an actor.

Mike Oz: Sigh. I really wish I could go to Saturday's X Fest in Modesto, which is this huge downtown music festival that draws like 15,000 people. Blake Lewis is one of the 50 performers and I'd really like to heckle him. But I got pre-standing married-people plans that take precedent. If I get out and about in Fresno, I might just check out the Blake Jones and the Trike Shop/Traveling Medicine Show/Andrew Bunnell/Gabe Rola show at Tokyo Garden on Saturday night (9 p.m., $5).

Will: Well, because I guess I am a night owl, I'll be at the 8 p.m. showing of "Priceless" tonight ... cause I likes the Audrey Tautou. And the dude was in the other French film that Fresno Filmworks picked a few months back, and he was good. And then Saturday (in the park, I think it'll be the 19th of July), I'm hoping to finally get out to the Shakespeare in the (Woodward) Park performance of "Twelfth Night." I know a bunch of people in the show, and I'm crossing my fingers it won't be hot as, well, you know. Wish me luck.

Donald: Saturday: I just can't keep away from Summer Arts at Fresno State. I'm planning to catch the performance of David Shiner (7 p.m. at the John Wright Theatre), one of the world's leading clowns. He started out as a street mime in Paris and performed with various European circuses. He's also been prominent on Broadway: He played the Cat in the Hat in "Seussical" and directed the touring production of "KOOZA" for Cirque du Soleil. I know that some people have issues with clowns and mimes, but I've heard great things about Shiner -- this is on a whole different level than that scary clown who tried to make you laugh at your fourth birthday party.

Sunday: If I can get tickets, I've promised the folks at Reedley's River City Theatre Company that I'll make it down to the historic opera house there for "Little Shop of Horrors." This charming little theater puts on solid community productions, and I'm always a sucker for my favorite man-eating plant.

Also: I want to remind people about a perfect family-friendly outing: a big and ambitious production of "The Music Man" at CenterStage Clovis Community Theatre. (I have a preview of the show in Friday's issue of 7, and my review will be on the Beehive on Friday afternoon.) I saw the opening performance Thursday, and it's a fine production. It only plays for two weekends, so you'll want to make plans soon.

Heather: Tonight I'll be at the 5:30 p.m. showing of "Priceless" at the Tower Theatre. My Saturday is wide open, though, so if anyone has any suggestions, leave them in the comments section and I will take them into serious consideration.

Not sure if the readers here are interested, but Sunday there is a Psychic Fair, or convention, at the Ramada Inn on Shaw and 41. There are some interesting things there if you are into that sort of thing.

yeah, I mean, even those going out to see Mr. Shakespeare's work can eeeeeasily slide up to Fulton Street
Saturdaynight and see the Tokyo Garden show afterward and not miss a note---the beauty of Fresburg---you can do it all.

I'm taking me and the family nexxxxxt week to see the
WSF, as I'll be involved with that ...you know, complicated wiring of the theremin and all Saturday.

(thanks to Renee, she's a great sport plugging and supporting all kindsa good stuff in our town. "Fool"? No way!!!) (and thanks to Mr. Oz for plugs in print and digitalland)

If I weren't still recovering from the early morning TDK screening followed by a full day of work, I'd join you guys over at the Priceless screening. Have fun!

See I couldn't do the 6 am screening and then work all day, I'm too lazy for that.

But I am definitely doing the 5:30 Priceless, only cause there's a dateless section. That and Audrey is just too damn cute to not want to watch.
