arrow You review 'Zohan'

zohanposter.jpgSomeday, I'm sure, I will be walking along a raging river, and I will slip and fall in, and I will manage to grab on to a stubborn tree root on the banks, and I will only have the strength to hold on for just a few minutes before being swept to certain death, and who shall come along but Adam Sandler. He will ask my name, and I will tell him, and he will laugh and say, "So long, sucker!"

Actually, I'm sure that Sandler pays no attention to the movie critics who regularly bash him in reviews. Why should he? He's review-proof. Just look at "You Don't Mess With the Zohan," which took in an estimated $40 million this weekend and is well on its way to becoming another monster Sandler hit.

I loathed the movie, although perhaps with not as much depth of passion as my dislike of Sandler's last heinous creation, "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," and I made that clear in my review. (And because of the wonder of wire services, I got to pronounce my verdict in such papers as the Raleigh News and Observer and the Anchorage Daily News.)

Now's your chance to offer your own review. What did you think of "You Don't Mess With the Zohan"? Post a comment. And if you ever see me drowning, please be kind.

I'm a huge Adam Sandler fan. After Wedding Singer (my all time favorite movie) I've considered myself a Sandler fan for life.

But some of his recent movies have been so horrible. Chuck and Larry, Longest Yard, Click...they aren't up to par with Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer and Billy Madison.

I think he's living on past successes kind of like old rock bands. They will put out a crap album just so they can tour and make money off people who remember how great they were in their younger days.

I'd rather see movies like Punch Drunk Love and Reign Over Me from him than this fluff he's been putting out cause he has proved he can do drama if he's not going to do good comedy again.

(Via Donald's phone mail): I thought the movie was funny. What more do you want? I never read reviews for Adam Sandler movies. Especially yours.

I am not a big Adam Sandler fan but have liked some of his movies, like Happy Gilmore. A friend and I decided to have "guys night", leave the wives behind, and enjoy some good immature guys humor by taking in "Zohan". I figured, "It can't be that bad. I know what I am getting into". The problem is that I had no idea what I was getting into. This was not just your average junior high humor. This was the relentless perverted humor of the guy in 7th grade that didn't know when to shut up, and probably got his @$$ kicked on a regular basis.

The movie started with some good laughs, but by the time it was over I wasn't sure if I needed to go see a priest or take a bath...or both.

The movie was about as crude and sexually disgusting as you could ever hope not to see. It's too bad that he takes it to such a degree, because he really has some funny stuff.

Save your bucks on this one!

This is one of worst movies I have seen in a long, long time. We walked out, it was that bad. I was amazed that people were laughing because I didn't find it funny AT ALL.

Adam Sandler is classic in his own way, though he tends to do his best work when he stays casual, not trying too hard to be funny or deep, etc.
