arrow You can bank on "Hancock"

Here he comes to save the day. There was a time when super heroes beat up bank robbers, stopped trains from crashing and even saved a few lives. This is the 21st Century. The help a super hero provides these days is a little more practical.

In connection with the release of the Will Smith super hero feature film “Hancock” on July 2, Columbia Pictures has launched a contest. The winner will get their home mortgage paid off faster than a speeding bullet. Hancock, a hero from a distant planet can bend steel deals in his bare hands.

Look. Up in the sky. It is a high mortgage rate. It is staggering closing costs. No. It is Hancock.

“Hancock’s Helping Hand Mortgage” goes with the general theme of the movie. Hancock is not the greatest American hero. He’s a drunk. He’s rude. And often he does more damage than good. Those are the reasons he needs help to improve his image. A prize package of up to $360,000 is a good start.

Here’s what you do to get Hancock’s help. Go to www.Hancockmovie.com for the official rules. You must write a 200 word essay explaining why you are deserving of the grand prize. Don’t delay. The contest runs through July 6.

If this Hancock inspired contest is successful, it could lead to a whole new generation of super heroes. Consider these possibilities:

Phone Etiquette Man: This hero is able to silence those talking loudly on their cell phones in public places.

Miss Almighty Oil: She battles the high cost of gasoline. Her arch nemesis is Dr. Speculator.

The Speed Demon: He patrols the city streets looking for people who drive less than 15 miles an hour in the fast lane. His motto is “Move over or something bad will happen.” Yes, the motto needs work.

The Blog: This visitor from the distant planet Enternetia patrols the information super highway in search of those who write stupid blogs. He swoops down without warning and .... (arrgh).
