The Huntington reintroduces its art gallery
After reading my colleague Donald Munro's rundown on the new Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco and upcoming must-see exhibits in that city, I just had to add one more suggestion to your summer art romp:
The Huntington in Southern California has re-opened its art gallery after a two-year, $20 million renovation. Classic masterworks, such as Thomas Gainsborough's "The Blue Boy," have a statelier, stellar and more impressive home.
You can get an idea of the "new" art gallery experience from a story by Christopher Knight, The Los Angeles Times' art critic.
I know gas is heading toward $5 territory but consider a visit to The Huntington, its refurbished mansion and its glorious European art collection as a personal investment in art education.

Comments:
You need to add the collection of the first printed books, then also the beautiful gardens. There's more to see than just the artwork. I've been there several times.

Albert, you make a great point about the other engaging facets of The Huntington. I hope folks click on "The Huntington" Web site link in the blog; they'll see what you're talking about.

The gardens are awesome, too. That's one of our favorite places to visit when we make a rare trip to L.A.
