Surprise! Katherine Heigl is a real woman
At this exact moment in time, very few people like Katherine Heigl. In fact, some downright loathe her.
She's loud, opinionated, ungrateful, has a habit of speaking disparagingly about projects that have made her both rich and famous, and is just generally annoying.
However. These (very invasive) paparazzi shots of Ms. Heigl in a bikini make me see her in a different way: as a real person. After wading through picture after picture on gossip sites of tanned, stick-thin, impossibly taut actresses, seeing Katherine looking like a real, genuine woman (with all the lumps and imperfections that entails) makes me relate to her a bit more. We're all sisters under the clothing, eh?
Now if only she'd learn to keep her damn trap shut for a while.

I just saw her this week in My Father The Hero in that exact shot only she was wearing a thong....AT AGE 14!....awkward.....

Wow, so KH shares a little criticism about the projects she works on and suddenly she's an ingrate? She's human, not a little automaton designed for our entertainment purposes.
Has no one else in the history of humanity, in spite of their successes, criticized the process that got them somewhere?

She's an ingrate cause she bitched about the lack of writing on Grey's, yet does 27 dresses which was abhorent. She's being a hypocrit.
I think she is doing this so they will let her out of her contract (for being a bitch or whatever) so she can pursue her movie career as the next Kate Hudson.

Funny Michael. 27 Dresses got average ratings from reviewers and above average ratings from viewers on Metacritic. Apparently hypocritical behavior is defined by what you find abhorrent?
Besides the fact that being a hypocrite and an ingrate are two different things.
Posted by: adam at June 16, 2008 6:57 PM
Settle down Beavis.
27 Dresses has a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 112 reviews and Metacritic gave it a 40 out of 100 based off 30 reviews. That don't sound like average to me. And I think it was abhorrent. Apparently according to you I'm not allowed to think that. Anything else I'm not allowed to think?
And I never said being a hypocrite and an ingrate were the SAME thing. I was stating that she was bitching about the lack of quality scripts from Grey's, yet she accepted the role for 27 and around 1 out of 3 critics enjoyed it. It mustn't have been that good to the average (there's that word again) moviegoer. So why did she accept a less than par movie role yet bitches about her tv role being less than par (and makes a huge stink about it)?

Now, now. Play nice, boys. Katherine Heigl isn't worth it.
It's strange, though, how she always seems to spark Beehive readers' ire.

Name's Adam.
Are you looking at the same Metacritic?
Tell me where I said you weren't allowed to think anything.

Hmmmmm do I want to start a blog war?
Nah I'm too lazy and that smacks of effort.
Posted by: Michael at June 17, 2008 10:30 AM
not to interject myself, but in starting a blog war it's usually helpful to have a blog.
and i usually think it's pretty lame when actors and actresses slam the writers of the show that they're on, especially when it's been such a highly acclaimed show, and that particular actor/actress has previously won awards for the show. to me, it seems like they've got some sour grapes because their particular role hasn't been as juicy or as prominent in the show.
they can complain if they want, it's their right. but that usually means you're going to get written out of the series.
and the comments she made about the grey's writers do seem quite ungrateful. that show pretty much made her, although dorks like me knew about her from roswell. other people may have known about her from other things. but grey's pretty much made her a household name. so, her to slam those same writers is ungrateful.

I thought a blog war was simply a war carried out on a blog.
Posted by: Heather at June 17, 2008 11:14 AM
I do have a blog. I just never write anything on it as I never have anything to really write about. I tried it for a while, but never got any feedback and felt like I was writing to myself. So I gave up.
I forgot she was on Roswell. Maybe you are right ed, she just wants a more prominent part and isn't getting it. I don't watch the show, I'm more of a House fan.
Posted by: Michael at June 17, 2008 11:15 AM
Wouldn't that just be a comment war?
Posted by: Mike Oz at June 17, 2008 11:15 AM
Wouldn't it be flaming? Which is pretty much why I stopped. Adam and I disagree. Not really necessary to waste the energy yelling at each other.
That and it's disrespectful to everyone else who reads the blogs here.

Michael gets an A in netiquette.
Posted by: Mike Oz at June 17, 2008 11:58 AM
maybe i'm wrong, but i think of a blog war as a war between two blogs. like me talking so much crap about sportsbuzz. i keep firing shots on their blog, on the fresnan, on other blogs and they've yet to engage.
or write a good post.
as per the catherine heigl conversation, when i first heard those comments she made it reminded me of joey on friends. yes, i watched friends, although i tailed off viewership in the last few seasons. remember how joey was a dr on days of our lives? and he fell down an elevator shaft after taking too much credit away from the writers. i'm just saying, maybe heigl's character better stick to the stairs.

From what I've read, it seems to be that she's complaining about this particular season's writing on Grey's Anatomy. I don't think that necessarily means that she's bitching about past seasons. Perhaps this is merely her way of telling the writers they've gone downhill, or as Ed suggests, just downhill with her part.
I mean, wouldn't you be pretty pissed if a show "pretty much made" you and then suddenly you were getting terrible writing?
Posted by: adam at June 17, 2008 12:09 PM
Actors publicly bitching about writers on their show seems the equivalent of us "real" folk bitching about work and our co-workers on blogs or MySpace. There are usually consequences in the "real" world; Heigl shouldn't be treated differently.
Look what happened to Isaiah Washington: he created a hostile work environment and he was let go. Heigl's comments appear to be doing the same thing (creating an uncomfortable workpace situation, albeit on a much smaller scale than Washington's outburst), so maybe she deserves the same thing. Or, at least, a reprimand from her network.
Posted by: Heather at June 17, 2008 12:16 PM
Well, I don't know that I would go so far as to draw parallels between bigotry and telling your co-workers that their work isn't up to par.
Her behavior is definitely passive-agressive, but she's also not denying that good writing helped her win an Emmy the previous season either.
Posted by: adam at June 17, 2008 1:30 PM
Adam, at least try to acknowledge that I admitted Katherine's comments to be "on a much smaller scale" than Washington's bigotry. While it's not the same thing, both actors created a very difficult working environment for everybody involved. That's the only comparison I was making.
It's true she's not denying that the writing helped her win an Emmy in the past. But she is blatantly saying that s****y writing this season is preventing her from winning another all-important trophy. It sort of implies that had the writing been good, she'd be a shoo-in for the award, and that's just douchey.

I liked 27 dressed... I thought it was cute. Well JM is cute and his little smile and... ok...
From an actor's point of view, it's not too good to s**t where you eat and chances are they are going to write her out or there's going to be some tragic happening and she'll go buh bye. Maybe she's upset over not getting her own show... Private Practice was SUCH a hit ::cough cough::... yeah...
So you want to transition from tv to movies and the writing team on the tv show won't let you go... so you make it impossible for them not to let you go... bad practice, but hey it's Hollywood and it happens.
LOL... or at least that's how I am reading the situation. I've never done Hollywood so I could be absolutely wrong :P

I guess I just have a problem with the framing in the post in in one or two of Michael's comments.
If one wants to criticize her for her mistakes, fine, but to line that up with being "loud", "opinionated", "annoying" or just straight out calling her a "bitch" is unfair and uncalled for.
Obviously, she's done things that may put her specific role on Grey's Anatomy in jeopardy, and could have done things much differently.
