Nightclub Notes: Salsaversary, free-ticket Friday and Roe's Remedy?
A few notes on what's going on in Fresno's nightclubs:
- Props go out to Starline's Salsa Club, which is celebrating its eight-year anniversary on Saturday night.
There are a handful of DJs scheduled to spin, free admission before 9:30 p.m. and music of various Latin varieties: salsa, merengue, reggaeton and more. Click the flier to right to enlarge it and get more details.
The Starline Salsa Club does a weekly Salsa night on Thursdays, which is a pretty popular event. Also worth a note: The club is also part of the Salsa in the City event next weekend.
- Wanna hit the clubs tonight and then see comedian Paul Rodriguez on Saturday night? Well, if you play your cards right, you can go out tonight and nab free tickets for tomorrow's show.
Free tickets will be given out tonight at events at 2039 Ultralounge, Salsa's and Rep's. And it's not a contest or raffle, word is that everybody who comes out is getting free tickets.
The question is: generosity or desperation?
- The award for the most prolific promoters of the week go to the guys putting on the new Remedy night at Roe, which starts tonight. Those guys were MySpace bulletining like champs.
Since its opening, Roe has been anything but consistent with its nights -- it seems like the names, DJs and themes are always being changed. Not sure if it's because they're tanking or if management is impatient. I've heard all kinds of stuff about Roe, but I'll save that for another time.
As far as tonight goes, the promoters -- who also do the popular W Night at Aqua Shi on Wednesdays -- are calling Remedy a "new vibe on Fridays in Fresno."
I asked what exactly that meant. I was curious, considering Roe's past.
What's the answer I got? "Come find out."
Eh, I need something more than that to think it's anything but the same ol' Roe.

Comments:
I've lived here 23 years now.

NOTE: I put 'Charlie Waters' second on my list of two, but only because he's gone.
I'm sure he would have complained otherwise.
