Miss California Pageant
The Miss California Pageant is back in Fresno for the 15th summer in a row. Fifty five women are trying to win a rhinestone crown, a $10,000 scholarship and a trip to Vegas in January to go for the Miss America title.
Consider this Pageant Central for the next few days.
First contestant in our spotlight: Miss Fresno County Emily Cobb, who's pictured here. She calls herself the "non-pageant pageant queen." Example: "I'm not the skinniest chick on the block," she says. "I love my Chipotle burrito like the next chick."
After speaking her mind, Cobb says, "I think the self-tanning lotion is getting to my brain."
Her best line comes when talking about family and friends deciding whether to shell out the money to watch her compete in the four-day pageant. "Honestly, I wouldn't come to see me every night."
I'll post again Wednesday -- Doug Hoagland

If this is Pageant Central, we need pictures or a link to the pageant's web site or something. It's a beauty contest - let's see what's being judged.

Doug,
Do you think you might put a little more of a positive spin on the Miss California Pageant? These young women work very hard to get to this level of competition. The negativity get's a bit tired.

Yes, all of that hard work at being born with just the right genetic makeup.

Ray, what are you talking about? I read no negativity in this at all - save for your comment, of course. I like that Doug is letting the contestant speak for herself.
As for "positive spin," Doug's a reporter, not a cheerleader.

Doug and I had a great time talking together. He had the best intention in mind while interviewing me. I'm off to get my burrito!

Miss Emily Cobb, Miss Fresno County, 2008, will be making an appearance at Sierra Vista Mall, Center Court on Wednesday, July the 16th, 2008 for a Classic TV Summer Event that is being hosted by Sierra Vista Mall, Borders Express, and myself (author, marketing consultant, teacher/mom). All ages are welcome. We will be watching Scooby Doo, making crafts, a classic trivia contest, and lots more. The event is geared towards ages 4 to 12 years of age and is FREE. I read the above blog and hadn't seen Miss Fresno Countys picture until now. I contacted her because I feel she is a great role model, and know I found out she likes burritos, and hey, there's a Chipotle at SVM. Hope to see you there! Author of The Magic of Bewitched Cookbook, The Magic of Bewitched Trivia Books--Thank you!
