Family is a real reality for NBC
NBC has announced it will add a new reality show called “Momma’s Boys” to its schedule in late August. The show will feature male contestants and their moms living in a house with potential wives. It is up to the moms to decide which of the harlots, oops make that hopefuls, are perfect for their sons.
This comes on the heels of the NBC reality show “My Dad is Better Than Your Dad.” This TV answer to child abuse pitted fathers and a child against other family pairings. It was painful to watch the way some of the dads treated their kids.
It appears, based on these two shows, NBC is looking at family related reality shows to fill a schedule that gets weaker with each passing moment. You have to think more is to come. Here are some ideas for future NBC reality shows.
“Where’s Grandpa’s Pants?!”: Family members retrace the footsteps of a grandfather to find out where he left keys, a hat and, on a very wacky sweeps episodes, his pants. The idea is to redress grandpa before the others finish. Look for Adam West to host.
“That’s My Child?”: Based on a popular concept from daytime talk shows, 10 families move into a Beverly Hills mansion. Here’s the twist. Five of the families feature children who are the actual offsprings of the parents. The other five have children who are the product of mom’s indiscretions. DNA testing eliminates one family each week. Maury Povich will host.
“I Want My Freedom”: Each week children get to take their arguments to Judge Gary Coleman. The children will get to argue for their independence from their parents. The winner gets a new home in Malibu. Kevin Federline will be the rapping bailiff.
“That’s Your Family”: Fifteen weird members of a family tree are put on a island. They include: that strange uncle who hugs too long; the second cousin who goes to family reunions to find dates; and the annoying aunt who is always in everyone’s business. There is no competition. They are just left on the island. Paris Hilton hosts.
“Big/Little”: Family members trade places for the day. Moms and Dads spend their days in school while their children fill in at work. Watch the fun of an 8-year-old trying to drive an ambulance. Good times. Look for big laughs when mom gets caught smoking in the bathroom. Billy Ray Cyrus is the host.
