Thank you for the shout out Mike!! :) And might I add, we're looking for more female bloggers, maybe who are into the scene in North Fresno?? :D

14 haters! I have to find a way to get to 16.

awww... Somebody noticed us over at Fresnocentric.com! Thanks Mike!

As to the hating on H-Mac, that isn't what we're about. You kids behave. (I can say that. I'm an old broad. Well, relatively speaking. Not THAT old. Ok, not really old at all, but older than you whippersnappers.)

Seriously, we're just trying to give "slice of life" perspectives from a female point of view about what it's like to live in Fresno. Sooo... if you like to blog about things to do/places to go/what's happening, are a chick, live in Fresburg, or even Fresburbia, North, South, East, West... Drop us a line over at Fresnocentric.

Oh my god. The Boston media/fans are going to have a field day with Heidi Watney. Not knowing anything about sports may work in an apathetic city towards sports (Bulldogs) with no pro teams, but in Boston? Her lack of sports knowledge is going to get her fired from that job with the Red Sox by July. Red Sox fans don't care what she looks like, they want someone who actually knows what they are talking about. This is actually the best thing that could have ever happened to the "I am too good for Fresno" Watney. After the thrashing she will get from the fans and media with this job in Boston, she will have to find another line of work.

Red Sox not happy about Heidi coming on board. She's an idiot.

Sources also say that NESN has officially hired Heidi Watney as Tina Cervasio’s replacement. Watney was rumored to be the person in line for the job after an off-air audition when the team was in Los Angeles in March.

Watney though doesn’t come with a squeaky-clean reputation having had an incident during a high school speaking engagement where she used inappropriate language and was suspended. She has also had a run in with actor Bill Murray and was recently let go from her last reporting job in Fresno, CA.

I think we’d have all been better served with Kathryn Tappen.

Can't help you reach 16, I enjoy your sardonic wit and pithy comments.

For those viewers of NESN who are hoping for your own Erin Andrews with the hiring of Heidi Watney, just wait until her first "report" and you will be sadly mistaken. She is awful and not qualified to work at the 3rd rated television station in Siberia, much less a station like NESN covering the Red Sox. I can't wait until the youtube videos of her in Boston start popping up. Now that is going to be hilarious. Mispronouncing names of players, not knowing baseball terminology, and just a general lack of sports knowledge is going to be like watching a trainwreck. You better hope they let her read of a teleprompter, because if not, even more carnage will ensue.

Are you kidding me? Get a job, so you can watch more than 3 channels on your tv. If you had enough money to attend games at the coliseum, Red Sox fans outnumber A's fans at least 2-1 if not more. Here is a hint, go to college, get a degree, get a job, earn some money, and you can watch Red Sox games on tv even if you don't live in Boston and can also go see your triple A's in Oakland. I can't wait until the A's move to Fremont in 2012 because then high school dropouts like you will definitely never be able to see them play at the new Cisco Field. Also, did you realize that to post on this forum on something called the internet, you don't have to live in Fresno. Doesn't that blow your mind. You can live in Boston, yet still post things on a webpage for a newspaper in Fresno, CA. This new technology is so neat! Pathetic.

Yeah, the same Liriano who is coming off a career-altering operation and whose numbers this year are great with a 11.32 era and a 0-3 record. That sure is the same pitcher that dominated hitters when he first got called up. That 90mph fastball really is dominating hitters like he was before with a 96+ fastball. Do you know anything about baseball? I like the 12,000 people who went to see the triple-a's for yesterday's game. With support like that, no wonder they are moving to Fremont. Shouldn't you have been at work yesterday during the game?!? Oh wait, that right, when you don't have a job, you can see afternoon games at the mosseleum. Go back to your home at the Bart station behind the stadium and listen to more games on the radio with your unemployed friends pushing shopping carts.
Maybe you and Mike Sweeney can find a job together since he will be unemployed soon since Oldie Thomas is taking his job and Barton has to play 1st. I love how I know more about the A's than you. Maybe you and Harden can go get ice cream together since he also has nothing to do during A's games that little Mark Prior Jr.

ARLINGTON, Tex. -- Struggling left-hander Francisco Liriano was sent back to the minors by the Minnesota Twins on Friday, after posting an 11.32 ERA and losing all three starts since returning to the rotation.

Liriano was sent to Triple-A Rochester before Friday night's game at Texas, and it was not a surprise. He gave up six runs and got only two outs on Thursday against Oakland, his latest failure to find the strike zone in a return from reconstructive elbow surgery.

Right-hander Bobby Korecky was recalled from Rochester to take Liriano's roster spot. Korecky was the closer for Rochester, going 2-1 with an 0.68 ERA and five saves in 13 1/3 innings.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! They really are the triple-a's.

Great. So who do they get in the first round of the playoffs? This must be a first in the history of the MLB with the first 26 game season and the playoffs starting in April. Whatever happened to October? You really think they are going to make the playoffs? When Chavez comes back in June, it's going to be the same result as Kotsay last year. He is going to struggle/reinjure himself and be inefective for the rest of the year. So you have Hannahan/Murphy playing third. Not exactly Chavez like. Then Crosby is going to be injured anyday now and be done for the year. Cust is going to strike out 225 times at least this year with a .205 average if he is lucky. You have Denorfia and Davis getting a lot of playing time when they both should be in Triple-A. Harden will never give anything positive except for having nice sideburns. The only reason Beane wants to get him healthy, is so he can trade him at a high point, because right now he couldn't get a bucket of dirt for him.
Duchscherer is never going to hold up for the whole season, he couldn't even stay healthy as a setup man, how is he going to give you 200+ innings this year? Smith and Eveland are going to get figured out by the rest of the league and not have sub 3 eras for much longer. And lastly, Geren is not a good manager. He is way too nice, and doesn't criticize any of his players. They should have never let Macha go. He got them out of the first round of the playoffs and they get rid of him? Stupidity at its best.
Now that I have shown my superior knowledge of the A's to you, just admit that everything I said in this novel post is right and they will not make the playoffs.

You are just a hater, bottomline. I'm glad the A's are doing well right now and am happy to see them a top the standings. That's my right as an A's right to be happy about my team, just as it is your right to hate on them because I'm an A's fan and not a bandwagon Red Sox like yourself. Shoot, you seem like a former A's fan who has gotten tired of our past playoff failures, or the lost of our stars for younger players who are just going to be traded away in a few years. and such, you are sick of the cycle and decided to go to a team that share's some of the same qualities as the A's in their moneyball approach, but just has the bigger payroll and nationwide popularity.

""So who do they get in the first round of the playoffs?"" Not the Red Sox, LOL!! They will have missed the playoffs if it ended today.

""Whatever happened to October?""
It's coming, don't worry. You can hold off on watching the Red Sox all summer so you can jump back on board and watch them in September like all the other California Red Sox fans.

""You really think they are going to make the playoffs?""
No, but I am enjoying the great start the A's are on. If you know so much about the A's, you will know that they get off to horrible starts every year, thus, they have to go on a .900 run just to get back into the playoff race. This year has been different and it feels good. FEELS DAMN GOOD!!!! GO A'S!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about that, just got a little excited. This is suppose to be our rebuilding year. And yes, we have a lot of new guys that could be playing over their heads, but if this is a glimpse of the next couple years, then us A's fans (you included since you are a former fan) have something to be very excited about.

I not expecting much from Chavez this year, if anything at all. Keep him on the shelf all year so he can attempt to be fully reovered from offseason shoulder surgery and back surgery. There's no need to rush him back. Although, I do miss his gold glove, i don't miss his bat. A platoon of Hannahan and Murphy will have to do for now. I prefer Murphy because I think he can put up better numbers with the bat if given the opportunity. Plus he has a gun for an arm. Something that will be beneficial if he's going to be our third baseman.

Yes, I'm well aware of Crosby's injury past. I cringed when Batista threw the ball at his head in the first inning of Friday night's game against Seattle. Crosby went down hard to avoid getting hit. I'm surprised he got up and didn't have a broken rib. Is Crosby going to get hurt? I sincerely hope not because you can see how different our offense is when he's in the lineup and hitting. Crosby has done some different things this year with his approach. His stance is a little more open up and he's hitting the ball to the opposite field. He really seems tuned in this year and hope to god that nothing happens. We need his defense as well. Crosby FTW!!!!

Cust is crap. Yeah, he'll probably get the strikeout record and not even reach 20 HR's at the rate he's going. He's a liability in the offense and defense as well. But since this is our rebuilding year, we don't really need to move him, and he's cheap. So he'll have to do. Since Buck is hurt, Cust will have to play.

I don't know about Rajah Davis getting a lot of playing time. Yes, he's been in the lineup a couple times already and that's just because Travis Buck is on the DL. We just acquired Davis last Wednesday off of Waivers. Denorfia isn't the greatest guy, but he's part of the depth in OF that we have. Ryan Sweeney should be getting the most playing time instead of Denorfia in center. We have Carlos Gonzalez in AAA, but why bring him up now? Let Sweeney and Denorfia platoon in center and keep the position warm for Carlos until September call ups or next season.

We all know the story with Rich Harden. As far as I'm concerned, he's not on the team. Sure the beginning of the season when he was holding the Red Sox sticks down, it was great to see, but we knew he would get injured again. You think you are telling me news?

I'm not worried about Duke. We have so much depth at pitching, 200 innings from Duke will not be needed. We have Blanton, Eveland, Smith, Gaudin, Braden, DiNardo, and a number of pitchers in the minors that we can call upon.

All you can say about Eveland and Smith is that they are going to be figured out soon enough? LOL!! Great analysis on these guys. I say these guys will make adjustments if they start to get roughed up one too many times. Curt Young is a great pitching coach who has done a great job with our staff, and Suzuki has done a great job behind the plate catching these guys. I don't think these guys will fall off too much. And if they do, they are still great pickups from the Dan Haren trade. I can see Eveland and Smith being a big part of the rotation in the next few years to come, well that's before they get shipped off for a new core of prospects, LOL!!

So a good manager to you is a guy who isn't nice and gets on his players? That formula didn't seem to work for Lou Pinella. Maybe it will this year for the Cubs right? Terry Francona is just an a$$hole too. That guy is always on his players' back for every little mishap they do. ::rolls eyes::

The jury is still out on Geren, but I have no complaints on the guy. Last season, he did a great job with the players he had after all the times we had to use the DL. It's shocking that the A's only finished 10 games under .500 with all the injuries they had. Give some credit to Geren for keeping his guys focused and not mailing in the season last year. So far this year Geren has done a damn good job at platooning the players and creating different lineups to use. Putting Suzuki in the leadoff spot has paid off great dividends so far as the A's have been doing well the past 10 games with him in the leadoff spot. We weren't getting much production with Buck or Ellis leading off. Suzuki has provided a spark. Credit Geren for making the change. HELL, credit Billy Beane if you want to, he's our manager, LOL!! Credit Geren for not being like Macha and whining about Billy telling him how to do his job.

Thanks for taking the time to dissect the Oakland A's. You really do care about them. Too bad you jumped on the bandwagon of a popular team that will probably not disappoint you the next few years to come. once they do, the Oakland A's will be right there for you to jump on because the future for the A's looks bright. You can guarandamntee that I'll be supporting my A's.

Go A's!!!

Just for your information, the A's really are not following the Moneyball approach anymore as is evident by this past draft in which they drafted much more high school players than they have in previous drafts. The Moneyball approach really didn't work as you can see in this shift of philosophy by the A's. Draft busts such as Fresno State's own Richie Robnett/Ben Fritz, as well as busts like Cliff Pennington, and Jeremy Brown as well as Landon Powell, Kevin Melillo, and Danny Putnam all have shown the A's that it really doesn't work. A true A's fan would have noticed this shift in philosophy with this past draft.

Posted by: Moneyball Doesn'tWork at April 28, 2008 3:11 PM

*****

Moneyball is still intact since the A's often go after that undervalued player, which at the time Moneyball was written, undervalued players were guys who got on base a lot via a walk. Since teams with money have picked up on the most undervalued stat in OBP, the A's have shifted to picking up players who are undervalued due to old age (i.e. Thomas, Piazza, Sweeney), and picking up overlooked guys like Emil Brown or Chris Denorfia who have jumped right in and have helped the A's this year. Hell, injury prone players are the new undervalued player that the A's jump on because they are cheap.

Moneyball was all about getting on base. That was the approach used by the 2004 world series champion red sox. OBP is still a big part of the A's philosphy, and a big part of the reason why Carlos Gonzalez is in AAA to work on his horrid K/BB ratio.

The A's had to draft younger players last year because our minor league system was depleted. Come on man, I thought you were an A's fan. We had to get younger players so they can stay down in the farm longer. You won't see us picking high school players in the next draft after we restocked our farm with the Haren and Swisher trades.

Posted by: mdub420 at April 28, 2008 3:23 PM

LOL!! talking about really picking and choosing your players to gripe about. In the 2004 draft, the same one where the A's drafted Richie Robnett, Landon Powell, Kevin Melilo, and Danny Putnam, you forgot to mention that the A's also drafted some good players. Kurt Suzuki, Huston Street are currently helping the team win as we speak. Jason Windsor and Dallas Braden have spent time with the major league club. Dallas played last season and is currently on the club as a spot starter/bullpen guy when needed. Windsor is in the minors, but he showed some flashes of being a contributor. Ben Fritz, don't count him out yet. Richie, yeah he hasn't earned a trip to the majors, and probably won't but you never know.

Where are we going to put Cliff Pennington? Bobby Crosby and Mark Ellis are holding down the middle infield spots. There's no room for Cliff at this time.

then this guy mentions Cliff Pennington from 2005, but left out Travis Buck who was on the opening day roster this year, and was the A's second pick in 2005. only if Buck can stay healthy though....

Posted by: mdub420 at April 28, 2008 3:36 PM

*****

Crosby has been injured every year since 2004, Ellis has been injured too (2006 playoffs) and Deangelo Jimenez is who you turn to?!?! Pennington never has even received a sniff at the bigs after being such a high pick. Speaking of Buck, talk to me when that clown haired fool can stay healthy for 1 three game series and not be a twin of Crosby or Harden. Windsor and Braden have both been awful in the majors. I won't even bother trying to find out their numbers because I know they are pathetic.
This guy mentions Travis Buck, but doesn't talk about one of the most critical pieces of Moneyball, the fat toad Jeremy Brown who retired at like 27 or whatever because he was a pig who never amounted to anything.
Until you know more about your favorite team than I do, just keep quiet. I know more about your supposed favorite team and you just can' take it.

Posted by: Knoweverthing at April 28, 2008 4:07 PM

what's there to say about Jeremy Brown? i'll talk about another critical piece of moneyball and that is Nick Swisher who was a big piece to our 2006 run, as well to restocking our farm system. Wish we could have held on to him but oh well.

Jeremy Brown isn't relevant, especially since we will have Kurt Susuki manning the catcher position for years to come. I'm not going to miss Brown, but you can talk about him all you want.

You mentioned players who have failed to make it to the bigs and leave out the guys who have made it. You know well that a majority of the prospects don't pan out, but the A's have done well with the guys they have drafted and put on the team. The A's don't have the luxery of the Red Sox to spend money on free agents or trade for stars who they will be able to sign. I say the A's have done pretty well with their draft picks as I have shown by countering the players who have failed by your standards.

Pennington just wasn't ready. Am I going to dwell over him not being able to play at a major league level? No I'm not. The A's had other players on the team to pick up Mark Ellis after he got hurt. Deangelo or Pennington weren't going to be the answers to lead us past the Tigers and their very very hot pitching staff at the time.

Buck has been healthy for a three game series this year, what are you talking about?

Keep it coming. You'll be a bonafide A's fan before I'm done with you.

Posted by: mdub420 at April 28, 2008 4:22 PM

*****

So Buck isn't on the DL right now you moron? Yeah, that's what I thought. Pennington was the freaking 21st pick of the draft in 2005 and he still hasn't sniffed the bigs???? Only 2 picks later the Red Sox got Jacoby Ellsbury and it's not like he did anything in the 2007 World Series like batting over .400 or anything like that. Or that he now is starting for the Red Sox that can trade for stars or free agents.
Six picks after Clown Buck, the Red Sox got Clay Bucholz. That fool sucks, it's not like he threw a no hitter or anything in one of his first starts in the majors. The A's could have had both of them, but instead they suck.

Posted by: RedSoxarethebest at April 28, 2008 4:37 PM

*****

Yeah, Buck is on the DL. But he was healthy for more than a 3 game series this season and will be once he comes off the DL. But like I said earlier, we have depth in the outfield so Buck can take all the time he needs to get healthy. So I don't know what you are thinking. I've mentioned that I wish Buck could stay healthy, so I don't know what you are trying to prove.

Draft picks are hit and miss. That's my point. You brought up some picks that haven't panned out for the A's, but I responded by giving you picks that have panned out. Red Sox have had picks in the past that haven't panned out to do anything? Am I right or wrong on that? You mention these young guys, but what about earlier? The A's playoff teams in the early 2000's were mostly from draft picks. Giambi, Tejada, Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Chavez, Ramon Hernandez, Ben Grieve. Those have been succesful draft picks that worked out for the A's. Fast forward to now, and we have draft picks on our roster, Bobby Crosby, Joe Blanton, Huston Street, Kurt Suzuki. I'll even go on to say Nick Swisher and Mark Mulder have helped us the most in regards to draft picks we've traded away. Dan Haren from the Mulder trade netted us the farm from Arizona.

You guys have Bucholtz, Pedroia, Paplebon, Ellsbury. But still your team is made up of free agent signings and star players who you were able to trade for and sign. Just now you have struck gold with the four I mentioned, while the A's have been building through the draft for years and have been successful, contrary to the failures you picked and choose to hate on.

Go ahead and be happy for these guys. I know that before them, you guys fielded a team with nothign but free agent signings. Ortiz, Manny, Pedro Martinez, Foulke, Schilling, Timlin, Damon, Cabrera. You still won, congrats, but what the A's have done through the draft is a lot better than the Red Sox. Your 2007 championship team looks the same way.
