The Beehive Bracket Battle
UPDATE: At the Sweet 16, here's our leaderboard: Mike (30), Will (29), Felicia (28), Donald (20). It's worth noting, though, that three of Felicia's Final Four are still alive -- the most of any of us. Shouts out to Bracket Bonanza contestants "rscsrc," "lopes100" and "julianamartinez," who are leading the real competition with 38.
Original post: "Somebody try to beat me, I dare ya." Those are my words, from the post right below this one. Well, my Beehive cohorts were up to the challenge. While The Bee is having its Bracket Bonanza contest, we're having a bracket battle of our own.
As Bee employees, we can't participate in the Bracket Bonanza contest, but we still love to fill out NCAA Tourney brackets. So we're having our own internal contest -- just for bragging rights. Check out brackets below from myself, Donald Munro, Will Albritton and Felicia Matlosz. For the record: I'm not scared of any of those brackets.
Mike: North Carolina, Pitt, UCLA, Georgetown (click to enlarge)
Donald: Arkansas, UNLV, Texas A & M, Miami

Donald will have to explains the specifics for himself, but I know he had a formula for his picks that had zero to do with basketball.

Sounds a little like mine. I like picking based on who has the longer name, or the ugliest mascot, or the players with the strangest last name. Except for Stanford. I just like Stanford.

Right you are, Mike. I call my patented system the Vowel Method. I picked my winners based on the number of times the letter "A" appears in the university name. If there was a tie, I skipped to "E," then "I," etc.
I wanted to make my picks based on the academic rankings of each school's astronomy department, but I ran out of time.

Will, the patented Vowel Method has many variables, and I don't want to give up too many secrets. But let's just say that I counted UNLV as the University of NevAdA LAs VegAs.

I've never seen my bracket this messy! There's a lot of potential out there for upsets and it's exciting! God, I love March! :)
