arrow ROGUE REVIEW: Airplane Jayne's Talking About ...

It’s been almost 24 hours now since I watched “Airplane Jayne’s Talking About …” and I’m still conflicted on how I feel.

The show is one woman’s story of divorce and re-discovery, with a lot of sex jokes and some really touching moments. As good as the high points were, the entire 30 minutes couldn’t hold up.

At one point, the show wandered off on a jargon-rich tangent about skydiving that lost me.

At another point, Jayne’s recount of the day her husband served her with divorce papers was so well done, so moving and so heart-wrenching that you wanted to run up to the microphone and console her.

Some of the jokes were very funny. Some others were flat and repetitive.

Some of what she was saying was really interesting. Some was disorganized.

It’s worth pointing out that Airplane Jayne is a long-time Rogue friend and first-time performer. So performing had to be quite a leap. And performing a show so deeply personal had to make that leap feel more like a skydive.

Despite its flaws, the show is honest and moving – and she definitely gets props for that.

Playing: 8;45 p.m. Wednesday at Ashtree Studios, 1035 N Fulton St. Cost: $3. Rating: PG-13.
