ROGUE READER REVIEW: Shakespeare Is an Idiot
Please note that because some members of the cast of "Shakespeare Is an Idiot" are employed at The Bee, we didn't have a Beehiver review the show. But, as with all the shows at the Rogue, we're asking readers to submit their own reviews of shows they see, and if they're long enough, we'll give them their own little "Rogue Reader Review" entry. So feel free to write! You can email us your reviews or post on the Reader Review link.
A reader named Chango writes:
Went to see Shakespeare Is an Idiot on Saturday night. Loved it!
It’s the type of show that you thank Rogue for: irreverent, homespun, fun even when not as funny.
A cast of four manage to razz the irrational plotlines of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays: Romeo & Juliet, Othello, Hamlet, and Macbeth.
As playwright, Albritton also directs and acts in the production. He has a stage presence as grand as his comportment. As the casting director, he managed to find three fine actors: Newlove, Frank, and Tehee. Booby jokes, ridiculous fake hair, audience participation, a murder—the play has it all and the actors carry it off well. There’s even some skin when Iago (Tehee) runs around shirtless with Lite Brite peg-like nipples that you could chip a tooth on.
All in all, the production seeks to slaughter the sacred cow of Shakespeare but actually further deifies him. Albritton and company show how Shakespeare transcends even his weakest moments with a passion for stage, audience, and words that (secretly or not) all of us relish. S.I.A.I. is not of a Shakespearean-level in terms of technique, but they manage to capture the wonderful Shakespearean idiocy of frivolity and then make it available for all of us to “Rogue-ly” share.

Wow. I think I could have gone my whole life without reading a review of Josh Tehee's nipples.
On the plus side, someone has a new nickname. Right, Lite Brite Nips?

I wonder how Chango knew we were calling Josh Mr. Brite-Lite Nips since the start of rehearsals??
Thank you for seeing the show and supporting the Rogue!
