arrow American Idol: The stripper gets tripped

"American Idol" voters this week made it clear that they want their entertainers wholesome and not skanky. How else can you explain how Kristy Lee Cook and her horrifying version of "Eight Days a Week" survived the cut, and David Hernandez was sent home? I gotta think his former career as a stripper did him in.

OK, he was one of the weaker singers this week, but come on folks. Did you hear Kristy's singing? I quickly hit the mute button when they made her sing the song again Wednesday night. Even she seemed to think she was a goner.

The other problem with the results show: Too long. Even Jim Carrey, shamelessly publicizing a certain movie about an elephant that hears voices, wasn't all that funny. And then Ryan Seacrest announced the Top 11 will sing from the Lennon/McCartney songbook again next week.

Oh no! Most of this bunch didn't really light it up on the first go around with those classics. When did AI become purveyors of pain?

Could Kristy Lee Cook be the new Sanjaya? Perhaps there's already a campaign out there run by tricksters trying to keep her on the show for as long as they can.

I'm thinking it's more my "skanky" theory. Example: Votefortheworst.com, which pushed for Sanjaya last year, is backing rocker Amanda Overmyer.

Do you think he 'really' got voted out, or did the Producers decide to boot him because of the whole male lap dancing thing?

Ernie, I really think voters made the call, which I disagreed with. Kristy should have been axed. But Hernandez put a target on his back with his weak-voiced, desperate take on "I Saw Her Standing There." And the stripper factor -- sleazy to some -- didn't build him any kind of fan base.

I think Kristy would've been gone if people were voting for who they wanted eliminated; D.H. was just forgettable the other night, which is sometimes worse than being bad.

Hernandez got the boot b/c of his gay status. Hollywooden-America is still queer-squimish. Hence, Seacrest and his weird gay-ish innuendos.

An out queer has no place as an American Idol... say the voters (not me).

I don't think being gay was the factor, it was being a stripper that got him the boot. OK maybe being a gay stripper was part of it. and what I mean by that is...The whole time he was singing about a girl, I couldn't help think he really didn't mean it or feel it. And every time he made a dance move, was that a move he made during his stripping routine? Obviously I was very distracted and not paying too much attention to his singing talent. It was good he went. America can vote Kristy off next week. Besides, it's the top ten finalist that count. They go on tour. And Ernie, don't be so cynical.
