Taking the Tahoe challenge (again)
I'm going to tackle a 100-mile bike ride around Lake Tahoe again this June. It'll be my third time participating in "America's Most Beautiful Ride" as a member of Central California's Team In Training, a program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
I ride for three reasons: to raise money for the society's aim of finding cures for blood-related cancers, to meet new people and make great friends, and to get in shape.
Training for a century bike ride isn't easy, especially since my body fits a lot better on a couch than it does on a bike seat. But the sacrifices made by Team In Training participants are a breeze compared to the physical and mental trials endured by patients fighting for their lives. We get to know some of these courageous patients, and it's a privilege to help them.
Donations to Team In Training pays for research that produces life-saving drugs and treatment for blood cancer-patients. A side benefit is that some of this research also has led to successful treatments for other forms of cancers.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Team In Training, which has raised about $800 million nationwide for research and patient services. The hope is that by the end of the year we'll hit $1 billion.
Our Central California cycle team hopes to raise more than $150,000. You can help by joining our team and becoming a cyclist/fund-raiser or by donating.
If you'd like to see what it's all about, we have several upcoming events.

Excellent! A friend of mine has just completed his first TNT marathon, and now myself and another friend will be joining you in training for this years century ride. It will be our first!
I think we'll try and make it out to the fun ride on the 26th as well and meet some new folk :)
