Thumbnail image for 212-sjk1.standalone.prod_affiliate.jpgBelieve it or not, a story and photos of Stacy Johnson-Klein's 2002 wedding at the university-owned home of Fresno State President John Welty are still up for viewing on the school's athletic Web site.

Update: Guess what, readers? It took four days since my original post, but the photos have been removed from the Web site.

Click here to check out the former Bulldogs women's basketball coach and husband Chuck Klein when they were friends with Welty -- and $19.1 million poorer.

Stacey johnson-Klien is a camera whore. Look at the other two ladies they are classy, you never see them on tv.

I read your column today defending the jury verdict. You left out one key fact in your analysis. Did the university offer the same deal to SJK that it offered to Lopes? In other words, did she have the option to resign like he did? If you know, you didn't say. If she wasn't offered that option (which I would find frankly incredible), then your position is valid.

On the other hand, if she was offered to chance to resign, but refused, then you are comparing apples and oranges. The university didn't "publicly humiliate" Lopes because it didn't have to. To say he shouldn't have been offered the option is just second-guessing the university's decision (and is frankly ridiculous). As a columnist, you are free to indulge in that sort of thing. But it's not the jury's prerogative to substitute their decision-making for the university administration.

Fresno State did not make a resignation request that included a financial settlement to Johnson-Klein, according to her lawyer. The school's offer was that it wouldn't release its investigation of her to the public if she quit.

Well, that still doesn't completely answer my question. Did the initial offer to Lopes include a financial settlement, or was that the result of subsequent negotiations? Would Johnson-Klein have taken $200K to walk away at that point? I'm getting the feeling that you're just dishing out the pieces of the picture that support your position.

Mike, now you're asking me to be a mind-reader. I don't know what she would've taken in 2005 before being fired. The record is clear: She would've accepted $950,000 before the trial began to walk away. Fresno State rejected the offer, and now it stands to lose much more.
