With regards to the person insulting you, I'd argue that it was retaliatory, and that's why they felt it was okay. Maybe they chose to attack your appearance because you were attacking someone else's and they felt it was a weak spot. Or maybe they really aren't any different, and the only real issue they have is that you decided to insult someone they liked.

Mature? Probably not, but then again, I'm not sure I find any of the debate to be so. I don't know if I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you when I say I don't really see a difference in either set of statements. But hey, gossip rags and blogs have a market, and probably always will.

I'm well past the age of idealistic fantasies that people will suddenly "grow out of it". the other thing is, Heather, it is an age old saying, treat others as you wish to be treated. It is simple really, maybe if you don't want other people to insult you, you shouldn't start by insulting others. Now it wouldn't surprise me if you are thinking that you didn't start anything, you are just voicing your opinion. Which is true. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion after all.
