Kurt Cobain sells his sole
An ad for Doc Martens boots has come out in the U.K. featuring Kurt Cobain in angelic dress, sitting on a cloud, wearing a pair of the heavy, black boots, with the tagline "Air Wair Dr. Martens Forever."
Kurt's widow, Courtney Love, claims that she did not give permission for Cobain's likeness to be used in the ads, saying through her rep: "It's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture."
Love received a lot of flack when she sold her share of Nirvana's publishing catalog in 2006, opening it up for use in commercials. In early May, Love announced she would be selling most of Cobain's old belongings in a Christie's auction.
A cynical person might think Love is angry simply because she's not gaining from the ad (which is not running in the U.S.). But an even more cynical person (me! me!) thinks that if Kurt Cobain was alive today, we'd already be hearing Nirvana songs in Disney movies, buying "Smells Like Teen Spirit" body spray and watching Cobain mentor the morons on "American Idol."
***UPDATE*** The CEO of Dr. Martens has apologized for the Kurt ad, as well as ads featuring Sid Vicious and Joey Ramone, and has fired the ad company responsible for the images.

I'm sorry, but there's no way that Kurt Cobain would have done any of those things you mentioned. Do you know anything about Nirvana at all?
Being that I'm probably as cynical as you are, I'm assuming you said those things about Kurt for the sake of hyperbole.

I have no doubt in my mind that Kurt Cobain - had he not put a hole in his head - would have certainly sold out by now. That's what people do - they grow up, and as their ideals start to change, they start making adult decisions that are ultimately better for their lives, for their children, for their pocketbooks. Ask Sir Paul McCartney.
The worst thing that ever happened to Kurt Cobain wasn't the bullet in his brain - it was the people who tried to deify someone who was - in the end - just a man.

OK, I'll give you Starbucks. But, I have to say at least I like all the artists they sell there. It's not like a totally tasteless thing to do. He still hasn't let whatever Beatles music he has any control of be used in TV commercials - unlike Led Zeppelin. I mean, can you hear "Rock N' Roll" now and not think of Cadillac? Cadillac? Shouldn't that be a hip-hop artist at least?

Everyone needs to shut up about Kurt Cobain. Courtney killed him. He loved what he did and he would not kill himself. He was proud of his acheivements and he would not leave the world with these people thinking that way about him. If he indeed did shoot himself, why didn't he bleed? He was already dead in the greenhouse and someone shot him and made it seem like he killed himself. He especially would not leave his infant daughter behind to a drug abuser mother such as Courtney. Get mad if you want but Kurt was an amazing man and Courtney was not good enough for him!!!

you all have obvisiouly no idea what Kurt Cobain or Kurdt Kobane as he spelt it in his own diary, was really like. he did think of killing himself and he attempted like twice before, his first at like 14. he may not have, he may have been murdered...... and he loved Courtney, he says so, and i don't think he'd slit her throat somehow. he loved his child, sure, but he thought she'd be better off without him. haven't you read the suicide note??
