arrow Can Sammy Hagar save Fresno?

HAGAR.JPGDoes Sammy Hagar hold the golden ticket for Fresno nightlife? Perhaps.

According to the Web site for the developing Village at Granite Park -- which is to feature a hotel, amusement park, dining and retail -- part of the plan is a Cabo Wabo Cantina.

From the Granite Park site:

Cabo Wabo, Sammy Hagar's original cantina is located in Cabo San Lucas, on the western edge of Mexico. A menu as free-spirited as the atmosphere, you'll find everything from seafood to Italian to Mexican. If Sammy's not rocking down the club, there's either another live band playing for the crowd, or a DJ that gets the crowd roaring.

In addition to the Cabo San Lucas location, there is another in South Lake Tahoe and a St. Louis cantina opening soon.

Fresno?!? Yeah, it doesn't necessarily follow the rest of those cities, but I'm not one to complain. The South Lake Tahoe Cabo Wabo location was just named one of the Top 100 Nightclubs and Bars in the United States by Nightclub & Bar magazine. I can get with that.

I tried calling some of Sammy's people trying to get some more info on this, but no luck yet.

However, that doesn't stop us from being hopeful, right? Judging from what we can see of Cabo Wabo online, it looks like a great addition for Fresno nightlife. A big-name nightclub with some star power, thanks to Hagar -- check yeah.

Fresno desperately needs a good medium-sized concert venue (hear that House of Blues?) and there would obviously be some music involved here. If Cabo Wabo could bring in some rising rock bands and also maintain a thriving club, that would plug a big hole in town.

I'll be watching this closely. If anybody knows anything, please share.

If this works, I say we make Sammy mayor.

Amen to everything you said Mike. I've been to the Tahoe Wabo and it's kinda small for shows but it should fit nicely in Fresno. It would have more space then say a Starline or Fred anyway.
Fagans leaves then Sammy rides in to save the day - hope it happens.

Fresno Wabo!

I almost forgot, I've been to the original Cabo one too and it's pretty big for stage/floor space. If it's going to be around the size of that one then it's a perfect space for mid-range bands coming through town.

Cabo Wabo will be centrally located at Granite Park. I've been watching construction. There's River Park, and Tower. Cobo Wabo and Granite Park's whole endever should kick it up a notch for our city. Fresno's Hot!! Could you bring a costal breeze with CABO WABO?

You would think Sammy Hagger's Cabo Wabo would be the place to have fun. We did.

We all went to Lake Tahoe to attend a fantastic wedding on Regan beach. That night we all decided to go to Sammy's place for a night of fun and dancing. Yes we where loud and yes we where dancing, we where celebrating a wedding! No we where not disturbing others and many seemed to be enjoying us dancing around the dance floor. The groom jumped on the small stage where there was a dance poll and danced a on the poll a bit. The bouncer shoved him off the small stage. Later the groom took off his shirt while on the dance floor and the bouncer told us we had to leave. I mean come on, can't we party and have a little fun at "Sammy Hagger's Cabo Wabo" The bouncer shoved the bride and called her a bitch (she's all of 110 lbs). Never been treated worse then at "Sammy Hagger's Cabo Wabo"

My advice; look elsewhere then this place.

Well, I'm sorry your experience in Tahoe was not as you thought it should be, but you do need to realize that when working and maintaining a busy restaurant catering to alcohol-induced nightlife people get out of hand. Bouncers, servers, managers, and bartenders alike come to notice signs and see red flags of people who, while having fun, put others and their institution in jeopardy. Sounds like that was what was going on. And yes, sometimes security get brash, but that is the easiest way to get an out of control guest to realize they aren't messing around and that they need to calm down. I am an employee of Cabo Wabo in Fresno and I know exactly how people treat our restaurant; with complete disreguard to their surroundings and as a place for them to simply get trashed. We take pride in the efforts we give to make Cabo Wabo a fun place, but we at the same token expect respect from our guests.
