arrow KRZR, what are you trying to pull?

krzr.jpgWhat the heck is going on over at KRZR?

The Wild Hare, Fresno's hard rock radio station, has been talking on the air lately of a "sign off" and a "goodbye" -- leaving many people calling us asking what in the name of Metallica is happening?

Well, no one knows for sure. The brass at KRZR isn't talking. Answers will come tomorrow at 8 a.m., according to radio chatter. But this just smells like a gimmick.

KRZR fans are concerned about another radio station flipping formats. And that would be a blow, but it doesn't seem like that's gonna happen. Even though the station's ratings aren't tops, it is still popular in town and is a necessity for the radio landscape of Fresno. Plus, radio stations don't really advertise a format flip.

Word on the street says a couple things are likely:

1. KRZR is gonna ditch its morning show with Mancow. Possibly to bring in someone like Opie & Anthony.

2. The station will wean away the newer music, and step-up its rotation of older rock. Maybe not venturing all the way into classic rock, but adding more '80s and '90s.

But, remember, it's radio. And the radio industry is about as crazy as Danny Bonaduce.

ok nevermind, i just checked for myself. apparently you were right and they are FINALLY getting rid of mancow. i'm surprised they stuck w/ it for this long, i'm not a huge fan. it's nice to know they're goin' local though. i can't wait to see how it all shapes out.

I actually thought it was fairly entertaining when Chris Daniel and Jenn Lipp were on. Then Chris left and it got kind of lame.

I am glad they finally got rid of the lowbrow humor that was Mancow. When they fired The Front Row a year ago I stopped listening. Now I will start again. I'm curious as to who they are going to have replace him. It won't be Chris Daniel or Brad Giese. They have a show up in San Francisco on 106.9. Jen Lipp could possibly come back, but I'm not expecting her to since she was on maternity leave last year when TFR was fired. If they go Opie and Anthony then they will just piss everyone off again. Their best bet to get the listeners they lost back, is to do local.

What a bunch of FAKERS those Wild Hares at KRZR are....makin' us think they are leaving and stuff. They should have announced that they are having Elmer Fudd shoot thier white trash rabbit mascot.

Not only did they get rid of Mancow (finally), but it seems their entire staff, including founder and program manager E. Curtis Johnson left as well...

Just read in the news today that Clear Channel was sold, and is selling off some of their radio stations, and all of their TV stations. Wonder if this sale had anything to do with the KRZR housecleaning.

Um what are you talking about? The staff saying goodbye was part of the bit for them sending Mancow off to that great pasture in the sky. Clear Channel is getting rid of some of it's stations outside the top 100 media markets. Read this story:

http://www.fresnobee.com/170/story/13738.html

It says KRZR WILL NOT be sold.
