Much ado about this weekend
Whattup everybody, I'm Mike Osegueda, the music and pop culture guy you see in The Bee every Friday. Now you can catch me online on a daily basis, too. So welcome to the new blog.
I envision this place turning into a collaborative guide to what's happening in Fresno. Just like the paper, I'm gonna try to report on the goings-on in Fresno and the rest of the Valley. There's a lot we can do online. I picture a forum where people can find out what shows to go see, as well as chime in what they thought about a certain venue or band. I might ask you guys if there's a question you want to ask a band that's coming to town -- or for help with stories I'm working on.
Stay tuned, I definitely got some tricks up my sleeve.
Now that's out of the way, let's dig into this weekend. Here are some highlights:
- George Strait is at the Save Mart Center tonight. Read about it.
- Rapper Planet Asia celebrates the release of his new album tonight at Star Palace.
- Speakers for the Dead are back, after guitarist Jason Garcia's bout with cancer . They play with Grooveyard at Crossroads tonight.
- Meatball Magic celebrates its one-year anniversary tonight with indie rock bands Rademacher, It'll Grow Back and The Batteries.
- Saturday, the blues community rallies behind Cole Fonseca, who was in a brutal car accident in December, with a benefit concert at the Visalia Fox Theatre featuring Ron Thompson, MoFo Party Band and more. Read about it.
- Clothing company L-R-G is in the valley for a skate demo in Orange Cove on Saturday afternoon. Read about it.
- Also, Buchanan High School is hosting the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival all day today and Saturday. High school jazz bands from all over the state will be performing. Read about it.

Comments:
I saw the little blurb about this in the Bee and thought that I would right a tiny note to say thank you-- for what well that is a little more complicated....You turned me on to the best band in Fresno-- Six Ounce Gloves. From the past articles that you have done-- an believe me there have been a few-- I thought to myself, "If Mike is raving about them, their on the radio, and number one at Tower Records... I might as well give their live show a chance". And boy was I glad I have a lot of free time at my job so that I can read the paper...they were amazing. Now I too know what you have been raving about and I now have something to look forward to on the weekends...find out from the Bee where Six Ounce Gloves are playing and rock out all night long. Thanks again Mike,
Megan
