What do you think?

From The Bee's editorial board: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's office has informed the chancellor at the new UC Merced campus that he won't be present at the university's opening ceremony.

Do you think Gov. Schwarzenegger should attend the UC Merced grand opening? Share your thoughts in this thread.

We all know that the governer is extremely busy, but this is the first UC to open in 30 years! By not showing up it would demonstate that he has very little regard for the education system in California.

In a way it's great. Too many politicians would fight the campus (say, by cutting education funding) then show up to claim credit when it's built over their objections. At least Gov. Schwarzenegger isn't hypocritically claiming it as an accomplishment of his administration.

The governor has highlighted the campus and education as one of his budget and policy priorities. To not attend the only UC campus to open since his arrival in the United States and the only UC Campus that will open in his political career seems to be both shortsighted and unfortunate. Rumor has it that political fundraising with donor meet & greets are on his agenda that day instead of supporting the premier public university system in the world. Shame on you Governor!Your true priorities become clear.
